Dear [HIRING MANAGER NAME PLACEHOLDER],
I want this internship, and I want to earn it. I am a junior at Flint Hill, I carry a 3.89 grade point average with Honors, and I have built a design portfolio deep enough to stand next to the college candidates you are also reviewing. I am not going to pretend to be older or more experienced than I am. What I will do is show you finished work and prove I can do the job.
I draw in one-point and two-point perspective, which means I can render a yard, a walkway, or a garden so a client understands the plan at a glance. I work in nine traditional mediums, from watercolor and acrylic to graphite and colored pencil, and I take every piece from rough concept to clean finish. On the software side I am comfortable in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, plus Google Workspace and Microsoft Office for the day to day.
As Soccer Captain I learned how to keep a group moving toward a goal when the pressure is on. As a Freshman Class Citizenship Awardee and a member of Student Council, the Junior Ambassador program, and the Black Student Union, I learned to show up, represent a group well, and follow through. I have also given time to Breast Cancer Awareness, DC Central Kitchen, and Nottoway Park Preservation here in Vienna, Virginia.
Give me a brief and a deadline. I will give you work you can put in front of a client. I would be glad to walk you through my portfolio in person or on a call whenever it suits you.
Honest framing: I am a current high school student applying for a role that often draws college interns. Everything in this letter and my portfolio reflects real high school work, presented at full strength and never overstated.
