Dear Hiring Team,
I am writing to express my interest in your summer design internship. I am a high school junior at Flint Hill School, and I am eager to spend the summer learning how a working design studio takes an idea from a first sketch to a finished, built result. Landscape design joins two things I care about deeply: drawing with intention and shaping spaces that people actually use and enjoy.
Over the past three years I have built a broad visual foundation. I work confidently across watercolor, acrylic, oil, charcoal, graphite, colored pencil, and marker, and I have trained in one point and two point perspective, which is the same spatial language used to render gardens, walkways, and structures before they are built. My pieces have been selected for our school Art Show portfolio display, and I keep an extensive personal portfolio that I update continually. On the software side, I am proficient in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, Google Workspace, and Microsoft Office, so I can move comfortably between hand work and digital production.
What I hope to contribute is not only craft but dependability. I serve as captain of my soccer team, where I have learned to set the tone, keep teammates accountable, and stay composed when the pressure is on. I was recognized with my school Freshman Class Citizenship Award, and I have represented my peers as a Junior Ambassador and on the Student Council Association. Outside of school I give time to causes that matter to me, including Breast Cancer Awareness, DC Central Kitchen, and Nottoway Park preservation. I show up early, I follow through, and I take feedback as a gift rather than a setback.
I know I am earlier in my journey than a college intern, and I see that as an advantage. I am genuinely curious, I learn quickly, and I am ready to do the unglamorous groundwork that real projects require. I would be grateful for the chance to observe, assist, and grow alongside your team this summer.
Thank you for considering my application. I would welcome the opportunity to share my portfolio and discuss how I can be useful to you.
